Three plates from one sitting, cut three ways. One source portrait, so the page shows range of framing rather than a range of sessions.

The room does not change: ochre plaster, a gold frame, pale upholstery, the same light coming in low from one side. What changes is distance. The first plate keeps the whole figure and the tilt of the room; the second closes on the face; the third drops to the wrist, where the ink begins.
All three are crops of a single public profile portrait.
